Braves' Jarred Kelenic: Likely back Saturday

Kelenic (wrist) is likely to return to Atlanta's lineup Saturday versus the Nationals, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Kelenic is missing a second straight start Friday after tweaking his right wrist on a diving catch Wednesday. However, he hit in the cage Friday and will be available to pinch hit. Barring any complications, Kelenic should be back in there for Saturday's contest.

Bummer (2-2) picked up the win Thursday over the Nationals, striking out one in a perfect seventh inning.
The southpaw set down the bottom of Washington's order on 13 pitches (eight strikes), and Atlanta took their first lead of the game in the top of the eighth. Bummer isn't seeing the high-leverage work he grew accustomed to with the White Sox, and he's still looking for his first hold of the season. After a bumpy start to the campaign, he's been tagged for earned runs in only one of 10 appearances since the beginning of May, posting a 1.64 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB through 11 innings over that stretch.

Braves' Ronald Acuna: Undergoes ACL surgery

Acuna underwent surgery Wednesday to repair the torn ACL in his left knee, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
The reigning NL MVP had already been ruled out for the season, but Acuna will now be able to begin rehabbing from the injury he suffered May 26. The 26-year-old underwent ACL surgery on his right knee in 2021, so he's familiar with the process. Acuna's injury that year happened in mid-July, not late May, and the difference could allow him to be ready for Opening Day in 2025.

Duvall went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run against the Nationals in a 5-2 victory Thursday.
Atlanta was being shut out by rookie hurler Mitchell Parker until Duvall tied the score with his two-run blast in the seventh inning. The long ball was his first since he went deep in back-to-back games in late May. Duvall is still under the Mendoza line with a .195 average on the campaign, but he's taken on a near-everyday role in right field since Ronald Acuna was lost for the season due to a knee injury.

Braves' Marcell Ozuna: Blasts 18th homer

Ozuna went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run in a 5-2 win against Washington on Thursday.
Ozuna gave Atlanta some breathing room with his two-run, eighth-inning blast that extended his team's lead from one run to three. It was the slugger's 18th long ball of the campaign, moving him into fourth place in the majors. Ozuna also ranks second with 55 RBI while slashing an excellent .312/.389/.611 through 252 plate appearances.

Iglesias made quick work of Washington in the ninth inning, needing just nine pitches to set the side down in order. The veteran closer has converted each of his past eight save chances, allowing three runs over 10 frames during that span. Iglesias hasn't been punching out batters at his usual rate this season -- he has just 16 strikeouts through 23.1 innings -- but he nonetheless is tied for fifth in the majors with 16 saves (in 18 chances).

Lopez allowed two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over six innings in a no-decision against Washington on Thursday.
Lopez held the Nationals scoreless until the sixth inning, when CJ Abrams and Lane Thomas tagged him for back-to-back solo homers. Lopez looked like he could be on the ropes when the following two batters singled, but the right-handed hurler got out of the jam without another run scoring. That allowed him to register his seventh quality start in what has been a career-best campaign. Lopez ranks third among qualified starters with a 1.85 ERA through 63.1 innings on the season.

Braves' A.J. Minter: Playing catch

Manager Brian Snitker said Thursday that Minter (hip) has been playing catch with no issues and will pitch an inning at some point next week, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
The team has not yet determined whether or not Minter's next step will come during live batting practice or in a minor-league rehab game. Either way, it seems likely that the 30-year-old southpaw will be able to return to Atlanta's bullpen when eligible in mid-June.

Kelenic made an early exit from Wednesday's contest after injuring his right wrist on a diving catch in the sixth inning. Initial X-rays came back clean immediately after the game, but Atlanta will err on the side of caution and keep him out for Thursday's series opener. Kerr tossed 2.1 innings of relief in Wednesday's 9-0 loss to the Red Sox, giving up two earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out two.
Kerr had started in both of his previous two appearances, but he shifted back to the bullpen this week while Atlanta opted to scale back to a five-man rotation following Monday's off day. With starter Spencer Schwellenbach getting chased from the game midway through the fifth inning while Atlanta faced a 5-0 deficit, Kerr immediately allowed a run-scoring double and then walked a batter before inducing an inning-ending flyout to leave the bases load. The run he let in was tacked on to Schwellenbach's final line, but Kerr was charged with two runs of his own when he served up a 361-foot home run to Rafael Devers in the bottom of the seventh with a runner on base. Assuming Atlanta isn't yet ready to pull the plug on Schwellenbach as its No. 5 starter, Kerr looks set to remain in the bullpen as a lower-leverage, multi-inning option.

Schwellenbach (0-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Red Sox, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out four.
It was a tough day for Schwellenbach, who allowed three runs in the second inning and another three in the fifth en route to his second loss in as many starts. The 24-year-old right-hander has now allowed nine runs through his first 9.2 innings with Atlanta after pitching to a 2.21 ERA across eight starts between High-A Rome and Double-A Mississippi. If Atlanta elects to keep Schwellenbach in the majors for another turn in the rotation, he'd currently line up for a road matchup in Baltimore early next week.

Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said that Kelenic (wrist) is expected to be fine after being removed from Wednesday's 9-0 loss to the Red Sox, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Kelenic went hitless in two at-bats before leaving the game.
Kelenic was lifted for a pinch hitter in the eighth inning after tweaking his right wrist on a diving catch earlier in the game. However, the outfielder tested out the strength of the wrist and also had X-rays after the contest, and everything checked out fine. Kelenic will be re-evaluated prior to Thursday's game against the Nationals, but he's not expected to miss any starts.

Kelenic was removed from Wednesday's game against the Red Sox with a possible right wrist injury, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Kelenic made a terrific diving catch in the bottom of the sixth inning but rolled over his wrist in the process. He initially remained in the game and made another catch in left field in the bottom of the seventh but was then lifted for a pinch hitter in the top of the eighth. Atlanta was trailing 8-0 at the time, so the team could just be acting cautiously with Kelenic. The club should have an update on its left fielder after the game.
