If you have diabetes and grocery shop at Walmart, you’re going to love this complete dietitian-approved guide to diabetes foods at Walmart!

Walmart offers one of the largest and most affordable grocery selections in the country. When grocery shopping at Walmart, you can use my downloadable grocery list for general ideas and options from all of the major grocery categories to find the best diabetes foods at Walmart.

Diabetes-friendly groceries at Walmart

Walmart offers one of the largest selections of groceries in the country! And, with that comes a huge selection of blood sugar friendly and diabetes friendly foods at Walmart. But, because there are so many options, there’s no way for me to list all of the possible diabetes foods at Walmart.

Below, I’ve listed some of my top favorite products in each category that are available at Walmart. And, I also link to other blog posts I’ve written about each category with more brand and product favorites… many of which are also sold at Walmart. You can dive into those for additional options.

In other words, there’s more than what you see in just this one post. The recommendations below are meant to give you a starting point.

Diabetes foods at Walmart

In the last 10 years, Walmart has started to carry more and more blood sugar friendly brands and diabetes products. And, they’re also offering a lot of new products under their own labels:

  • Great Value (groceries)
  • Freshness Guaranteed (produce)
  • Marketside Sam’s Choice (prepared foods)
  • Clear American (sparkling water beverages)
  • Prime Della (meats and cheeses)

Additionally, if you find yourself shopping at Walmart a lot, consider investing in a Walmart + membership. TheWalmart + membershipgets you free grocery delivery and free shipping on online orders, plus a ton of other perks.

Best Great Value brand foods for diabetes

Some of my favorite staple grocery items I keep on hand that you can get at Walmart under their Great Value brand include:

  • Low and no calorie sweetener options
  • Almond flour (this is the lowest priced almond flour I’ve found anywhere)
  • Oats
  • Produce

Below, we’ll cover some of my favorite branded diabetes-friendly groceries at Walmart.

Walmart breakfast food for diabetes

Some of my favorite breakfast options at Walmart include the following foods.

Fairlife Core Power High Protein Milk Shake

These milkshakes are the perfect low sugar chocolate milk alternative. Pair one of these with some fruit and you’ve got a delicious blood sugar friendly breakfast on-the-go. I prefer the varieties with 26g protein per drink. They also offer one with 42g protein per drink though, if you have higher protein needs.

Ratio Keto Friendly Cereal

You may have seen Ratio granola at other stores, but Walmart is the only place I’ve seen their cereal. Each serving has 10g protein and only 3g sugar per serving.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (3)

Catalina Crunch

Catalina Crunch cereal is my personal favorite when it comes to taste. And, their nutrition profile is ideal for stable blood sugars: 9g fiber and 11g protein in each serving! And, zero grams of sugar. It is sweetened with a combination of stevia and monk fruit, and comes in 8 flavors. But, keep in ,mind it is higher fiber, so if you’re not used to eating higher fiber foods start with a small amount to avoid stomach upset.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (4)

KIND Healthy Grains Granola

Walmart carries 5 flavors of KIND Healthy Grains Granola: Peanut Butter, Cinnamon, Oats & Honey, Dark Chocolate, and Almond Butter. The amounts of added sugar vary from flavor to flavor, but are generally all within the ranges I like to see. And, since the main ingredients include nuts, nut butter, seeds, and oats, protein is 10+g/serving for most flavors.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (5)

KIND Zero Granola

This is a new-to-me product find at Walmart! I’m excited to try it. Just like their bars, the primary ingredients are nuts with minimal added sugar.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (8)

Great Value Roasted Nuts

Walmart offers several different types of nuts under their Great Value brand: pistachios, almonds, cashews, etc. They come in raw and roasted varieties, as well as salted or unsalted. I am especially impressed with the cost savings on pistachios compared to name brand options.

Crazy Richard’s Creamy Peanut Butter

I discovered Crazy Richard’s Peanut Butter years ago on Instagram and love that I can find them in store at Walmart. Walmart has the crunchy peanut butter and creamy peanut butter. And, the best part is their only ingredient is peanuts… so no added sugar!

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (12)

Kodiak Bear Bites

I have not seen these at any other store besides Walmart and they look delicious! A lower sugar and higher protein alternative to graham crackers or Teddy Grams. They have 5g protein per serving.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (13)

High Key Mini Cookies

High Key has been growing in popularity over the last several years and now offers these mini cookies as well as sandwich cookies. Both are available at Walmart. (My nephew also has type 1 diabetes and absolutely LOVES these mini chocolate chip ones.)

Lily’s Chocolate and Gummy Candies

I love almost all of Lily’s products, and you can find a wide variety of their products at Walmart including: peanut butter cups, chocolate bars, chocolate chips, and gummy candies. The price point at Walmart, as with many other things, is significantly lower than other stores.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (15)

Skinny Dipped Cashews

Just like their Skinny Dipped almonds (which Walmart also carries) these cashews are so delicious! I only saw one flavor of the cashews though, Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel. They do carry several flavors of the almonds though. You get a deliciously sweet snack with 5g protein in each serving.

Diabetes friendly breads at Walmart

Some of my favorite breads at Walmart include the following options.

Dave’s Killer Bread Thin-Sliced 21 Whole Grains and Seeds

Dave’s Killer Bread is higher in fiber and protein making them perfect for someone with diabetes. And, if you’re tempted to be worried about the sugar in the bread, it’s not as much of a concern because of the higher protein and fiber amounts. Each slice has 3g protein and 2g fiber.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (17)

Oroweat 100% Whole Wheat

For a larger slice of whole wheat sandwich bread, Oroweat tastes delicious and contains 2g fiber and 4g protein in each slice.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (18)

Dave’s Killer Bread Bagels

These bagels have 13g protein and 5g fiber in each bagel which is better than most other options. I do still recommend pairing these with another protein source though since they are a higher carbohydrate food.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (19)

Sola Bagels

Sola has mastered the low carb bread option. The flavor and texture are delicious with only 5g net carbs. The only downside is they are not gluten free if you’re looking for that. (You can even find their rolls at someCostcostores now!

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (21)

Banza Chickpea Pasta

For a long time, Banza was one of the only chickpea pastas on the market. They offer a variety of shapes and products from traditional pasta to boxed mac & cheese. Compared to regular pasta, it has more protein and fiber. It does get a bit gummy if you don’t rinse it after cooking though.

Diabetes friendly yogurt at Walmart

Some of my favorite yogurt options at Walmart include these brands.

Great Value Plain Greek Yogurt

Plain Greek yogurt is one of my favorite blood sugar tools. You can add any flavorings you want to it and it has 15g protein per cup. And, buying store brand is one of the most affordable options.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (23)

Chobani Zero Sugar Greek Yogurt

Chobani Zero Sugaris an ultra-filtered milk product. Each serving has 11g protein and 5g carbohydrate. It is sweetened with a combination of allulose, stevia, and monk fruit. I prefer the Chobani Less Sugar line of yogurts over this one, but if you’re looking for 0g sugar, this is a good option.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (24)

Two Good Yogurt

Diabetes friendly coffee creamers at Walmart

Some of my favorite low sugar coffee creamers at Walmart include these flavors.

Great Value Half & Half

Unsweetened half & half can be a great coffee creamer for people with diabetes. The additional fat (compared to whole milk) makes it even creamier and tastier in my opinion. And as usual, you can’t beat the price of the Great value brand.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (27)

Starbucks Zero Creamer

Starbucks Zero Creamer is my favorite “traditional” brand creamer. Sweetened with sucralose, they have 0g added sugar. My Walmart only had the Caramel Macchiato flavor available for purchase, but there are also other flavors.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (28)

Diabetes frozen meals at Walmart

Of all the departments at Walmart, the frozen foods section is the most impressive. From store brand to name brand options. There’s a lot to pick from.

Healthy Choice Power Bowls

This line of meals from Healthy Choice is big on veggies. They run ~15g carbohydrate in each meal, with 5-7g fiber… and Walmart has a ton of varieties to choose from.

Real Good Foods Lightly Breaded Chicken Nuggets

I have been on a hunt to find these in store for a while. I love most of the Real Good Foods offerings and was so excited to see them at Walmart. They taste just like regular chicken nuggets to me, but have less breading for a lower carb count.

Diabetes ice cream at Walmart (and other frozen treats)

Walmart has SO many blood sugar friendly ice cream and frozen treat options! These are my favorites for both nutrition and taste.

Breyer’s Carb Smart Ice Cream

Walmart offers several different low carb ice cream pint options, but I tend to prefer the Breyer’s one over the others. The flavor and texture are the best in my opinion.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (34)

Cool Whip Zero Sugar

If you’re a Cool Whip fan (I most certainly am!), you should try their Zero Sugar flavor. It doesn’t taste exactly like the regular version, but it’s not far off.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (35)

Tru Fru Raspberries

I love the TruFru chocolate covered frozen fruit options. They’re a simple treat that you can adjust the serving size to meet your needs. Walmart carries the raspberries, blueberries, and pineapple.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (36)

Blue Bell Single Serve Ice Cream cups

If you’re looking for the real deal ice cream, no one beats Blue Bell on flavor. But, ice cream is notoriously difficult to measure out and carb count accurately. So, if you’re going to have the real thing, I love any option that’s already portioned out for you… like these cups from Blue Bell. Walmart has the typical Chocolate and Vanilla options… and I saw a new Birthday Cake Single Serve option as well!

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (37)

Great Value Mini Ice Cream Sandwiches

Again, any option of ice cream that is already portioned out for you is going to be easier to navigate if you need to carb count. The mini size of these means the carb count is only 16g.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (38)

KIND Frozen Bars

Eating a KIND Frozen bar is like biting into a frozen Snickers that only has 16g carbohydrate and 7g fiber! Run. Don’t Walk. And, go get some from Walmart.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (39)

Yes, they’re that good.

Yasso Greek Yogurt Bars and Poppables

Yasso makes frozen Greek yogurt treats with 5g+ protein/serving? Walmart carries their new Poppables (small frozen yogurt bites) as well as a few flavors of the bars. (My particular store carries 4 different flavors but it may be different where you live.)

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (40)

GoodPop Popsicles

Walmart carries a wide variety of GoodPop flavors including: ice cream sandwiches, fruit juice pops, creamsicles, and fudge pops. I’m obsessed with the Orange n’ Cream & Coconut Lime flavors! Almost all of their popsicles and frozen treats have 15g carbohydrate or less and have low amounts of added sugar or no added sugar at all.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (41)

Helados Mexico Mini Ice Cream Pops

If you’ve never tried these ice cream pops, you need to grab some next time you’re at Walmart. They’re delicious and incredibly refreshing. I like the mini size because they only have 9-11g carbohydrate depending on the flavor.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (42)

Diabetes friendly drinks at Walmart

As I mentioned above, Walmart offers their own line of unsweetened sparkling water called Clear American alongside many name brand options as well. It comes in two sizes: 1 Liter bottle or 12 fl oz. cans.

A Dietitian’s Guide for Diabetes Foods at Walmart: Snacks, Frozen Meals, and More | Milk & Honey Nutrition (43)

And, be careful which variety you’re putting in your cart. Some of the flavors are sweetened and some are unsweetened, so double check the bottle or package to make sure you’re grabbing the product you intended to get.
